The Deep Thoughts of Abigail

Excerpts from a school journal I had to keep in grade one. If there is more than one paragraph underneath a date, each one is a seperate entry. There will be more pictures later on, when my computer stops lagging so much. The one that is there was very necessary or I would not have bothered at all today.

Eventually we made it to Kelowna, only to find out that our luggage had been sent to wherever we were supposed to fly in the first place, and we had no other clothes than the ones that we were wearing for the duration of our trip. Our luggage was waiting for us in Vancouver when we got back. Needless to say, that was the last time I flew on a plane until I was thirteen.)

Fuck you, snow

Friday:

Block one ate a croissant and played big two. Block two wrote a French composition and bullshitted the whole thing. It gave me a wonderful excuse to complain about how shitty Maple Ridge is. Block three did my interrogation, then drew a pretty picture. Block four took notes and worked on lab. Block five finished thumbnails, then noticed that the eyes and eyebrows of the bald, black man that Natty was drawing looked like Adam's and pointed it out to Mao, who refused to look at it for the rest of the block. Everyone realized that their art pieces are all depressing, including mine. Mao and I discussed creepy stalkers. Hmmm, where have I heard that sentence before. Went to Mikhael's to take advantage of his TV; watched Food Network, but not TLC, because What Not To Wear was on. Bussed home, cute guy on bus. Family went for dinner, I ate pasta.

Saturday:
Decided that enough was enough, I was tired of somebody who doesn't even live here anymore taking up more room in my room that I did. So, I took all of her clothing out of the closet, stuffed it in her dresser, and we took it to her apartment. I also emptied my dresser and put everything into the closet and removed my dresser as well. Then we all went to IKEA, where I acquired a Billy Bookcase and a mat for the floor so my feet don't get so cold. We then went to HomeSense because I wanted a nice new journal and HomeSense always has weird shit. I have my next two. Dad also now has his gag gift-under-ten-dollars. Went for dinner at the Austin, service was very slow because there was a large family reunion going on. I don't think I've ever seen a more ugly family in my life. Especially that man/hobbit who was actually a woman. We came back to the Ridge and Erin realized that she had forgotten her power cord, which meant that I was booted off the computer until she left today. To pass the time, I assembled my book case with some help from dad, then started rearranging my room accordingly. my room looks bigger now. If only I could get Erin's bed out of there, then it would be perfect.

Today:

Bored out of my mind. Arranged things in my room some more, then watched Red Dwarf episodes and Smeg Ups until Erin announced that she couldn't concentrate and wanted to go home. Parents took her home after a rather good dinner. It took them forever. The van isn't working probably, so we have dropped it off at the local mechanic and . . . my dad seems to have wandered into my room. To look out the window? To see if it's still snowing. Fuck you snow. I hate you. I can't go to school tomorrow because of you. Or dance. I'm giving you the finger right now. Did some bio, had a shower, forgot to brush my hair, stupid Abby. Cat staring at me. Should go to bed.

Vodka and Whipped Cream

Alright.

I've been quite busy recently, with my English commentary and that bloody bio test and everything.

On Monday I . . . doodled a lot, wrote haikus and confused people. In block one we found out that Faaria likes her men chewy, in block two I drew lots of pictures, in advisory I wrote my haiku, with Emily reading, and drew some more, then Emily showed me how two equals one. In block three I drew more, and also in block four, where Mikhael wrote a haiku. Block five did nothing but eat pastry. After school hung out at Mikhael's for a couple hours, then went to dance.

Tuesday block one I ate cake that Amnesty International was selling, it was really good. Block two I actually paid attention in French. Block three I drew a starry horse looking at a dead balloon on a tree and quoted Atwood. Block four whatever we did I have no record of, but I'm sure that something funny happened. Right, we were dissecting worms that smelled bad. Block five we were introduced to a new project and I got really excited because it can be as morbid and violent as I want. After school I . . . went home? Mom and I were alone for dinner, so we made a nice little evening out of it.

Yesterday block one Rocky was supposed to be drawing something, but he didn't know what, so he asked us and Faaria said, "Draw a fish in the shape of a fish," then Jon said, "I was thinking about how to draw a fish in the shape of a fish, then you said write about a fish and the fish was fishing . . . " which had us all laughing after we wrapped our heads around what he had just said. Block two we watched a movie about two guys from New York visiting these two siblings from Montreal, and the siblings pretended that they didn't know any English, and the guys had to communicate with them, while only having three years experience of French. Everything looked so eighties it hurt. I drew a fishing fish. Block three I worked on my art homework. Block four we had a test on plants, which I'm quite sure that I did horrible on. Block five I was researching for my new piece. Went to the library and the mall (bought Pocky at the T&T) after school, then to dance. Donna actually noticed that we were wearing jeans today, but only because three out of the four of us were.

Today block one I finished my commentary then went downstairs to play cards. There were no cookies in the caf so I had to make do with a chocolate-filled croissant from the Amnesty International people. Block two I didn't do much, but I did get perfect on the exercise we did from an old provincial. Block three I did my commentary. Block four was the other part of the test from yesterday. My test went missing, so Sabot gave me the sheet I needed, but then Marianne discovered that she had Francis' test stuck to hers, so everybody searched their tests and mine was found, stuck to Omar's. I then took the sheet that was given to me before and origamied it into a frog named Omar, which I gave to him after the test was over. Took pictures of Sabot and SUS arm wrestling, which I will maybe post one day, but I cannot put any of my pictures onto my computer at this current time. Block five I continued to draw morbid things, this time including red paint. After school went home. Been catching up on my internet ever since.

This post technically took me five hours to write.

Can I be your bed bug?

I haven't posted all week due to computer problems, and I was going to add in a post for each day this week, but I don't think I will; I have everything in my journal anyways.

Some memorable things this week, in no particular order:

- I got an A on my French oral. That is incredibly good for me. I'm getting a solid B.

- I received two letters, one very bad and one very good; the latter brought tears to my eyes.

- I wrote a letter that brought tears to the eyes of the recipient.

- Dad and I are not fighting anymore.

- I got to visit some relatives, where we ate a somewhat less than satisfying dinner, although it was good considering the circumstances, but the dessert was good and the evening more enjoyable than I expected. Still, I missed dance which had Donna slightly upset with me.

- I weathered a storm while at previously mentioned dinner.

- I read Aldous Huxley's Brave New World.

- I started George Orwell's 1984.

- I saw Stranger Than Fiction, then as soon as it was over walked across the hall and saw Borat.

- I saw Stranger Than Fiction again, this time with my family. Nobody was there to check our tickets, so theoretically we could have gotten in for free.

- I went on a mini, two-hour vacation.

- I finished my ceramics project, then made a walrus.

- Took a bus with Beckie. Talked about dance; more specifically, how weird Donna has been acting recently.

- Doodle of the week has been the hat-with-a-feather. Past weeks include the crocodile and the pineapple.

- I discovered a new poet, Anna Akhmatova.

- I drew an awesomely awesome mad cow.

- I was forced to interrogate Francis' presentation. Ugh.

- I wrote The Stupidest Poem in the World.

- I . . . cried? In three and a half different locations.

- I decided that I need to invent a way to harness the power of Pepin's hand movements and turn it into useful energy.

Yesterday on TV I was watching this TV show . . .

Okay, long day.

Woke up, shower.

Mom told me some interesting news just as I was about to leave; apparently there's a man stalking young woman on 227th North of Dewdney. Um, guess where I walk on my way home. In the dark. Guess where I was about to walk on my way to Haney Place.

Anyways, I wasn't abducted, but I'm a shitload more paranoid now.

Bus, to Coquitlam Station, then 152. Mikhael got on at the stop near his house, carrying breakfast. Bussed to Lougheed Station.

Skytrain to Commercial, switch to skytrain at Broadway, one stop to Main Street/Science World. Skytrains were packed today, because of that stupid football game.

Science World, admired the tents outside for a few minutes, Mikhael had to fix one, then we realized that we already had our tickets and moved to the non-existent line on the right.

Once inside I tied my shoe.

Went upstairs, and since we were early, we went to the giant burger and watched movies about growing things, including this one.

Lined up, entered BodyWorlds 3. It was quite good. Some it was icky, the smokers lung, the diseased body parts, but all the little vein things and the fact that they distinguished the gall bladder every time by dying it bright green, that was awesome. We named the chicken Al Capone and the lamb Che Guevara.

The guy holding his own skin was awesome. The fetuses . . . I'm not squeamish. I was so excited to go see dead bodies.

After, bought a root beer and a Sponge Bob ice cream thing, then ran up the ramp to the OmniMax to wait for our movie to start. Took pictures of us eating Sponge Bob to pass the time.

Movie was good, we saw one on Greece, because I paid for everything, so I got to choose the movie. And I loves me history.

Left soon after the movie was over, went to Tinseltown and ate some cheap Chinese. Wanted to go to that really good sushi place, but it would have meant more waking and my feet were already soaked.

Skytrain home was packed, we picked the wrong time to go home. A man with a Lions hat told me the score, 45-18. The few people in the crowd wearing green looked sad.

Bussed home, tried not to fall asleep. Watched The Princess Diaries because it was on.

Was good day, continued tomorrow. I must not forget my dance shoes.

Happy six months, baby :)

Found this animation, really cute. It had me saying, "awwwwwwwwwww" a lot.

Megaspore Mother Cell

Choir:
Three performances this week, all of which I shall go into detail later. Thursday morning practices screw up my sleeping in the extra ten minutes schedule and confuse my mother.

Block One:
I have worked on bio labs, practiced French orals, played with little bits of paper at the Refugee Awareness Benefit Dinner ticket table and run around like a chicken with its head cut off wondering where I was supposed to be today. Yes . . .

French:
On Tuesday we . . . marked a worksheet that for some reason took up the whole block, Wednesday and yesterday were our "Show and Tell" orals, I talked about Stewart and people say that I was pretty good, although I don't believe them. Most people's were interesting though, Marianne talked about her wooden shark and how she is afraid of real sharks (I named her shark Cuddlemuffin, then asked her it's name during the question and answer period so that she'd say it in front of the class. It was even funny how she said it: *Mutters* C'est stupide. Son nom est Cuddlemuffin). Megan talked about a book, Horia about Romanian currency, Shalaleh about some computer thing, Rocky told a rather amusing story about a loonie, Sue passed around some pictures and talked about when she came to Canada, Carolyn about her hairbrush and how she used to have a 'fro, and Nick about Homer Simpson. There were more, but I don't really care.

Missed class today because of the Remembrance Day assemblies.

English:
On Tuesday I wrote a commentary. We had a TOC that day, who neglected to tell us that we weren't supposed to write double-spaced until after we'd handed them in. Hunnings gave us the last two pages of A Bird in the House to write about, and set a limit of one hundred fifty words. Of course, everyone wrote five hundred to six hundred instead. Except me. I assumed that when Hunnings asks for one hundred fifty words, he means one hundred fifty words, so mine, quotes included, was less than two hundred by the time I was finished.

On Wednesday, most of the block was taken up by Pepin and Hunnings discussing whether or not Hillary Clinton would make a good President of the United States, making referenced to Kim Campbell every once in a while, while the rest of us fought to stay awake, all the time thinking, "The elections aren't for two years. Who cares right now?" Spent the rest of the block discussing social taboos and archetypes.

Yesterday we took notes on various things, and Hunnings went on a twenty minute speech about Delilah and Samson, before we reminded him that the whore house in Handmaid's Tale was called Jezebel's.

Today he talked about Jezebel.

Bio:
Sabot was in a really bad mood on Tuesday, so the energy level in his classroom for once was in the negatives. Mikhael and I offered to give him a mini chocolate bar, but he declined.

We've been doing labs the last couple of days. Yesterday took a bunch of notes about pine trees.

Today the energy level was back, with Sabot throwing gum at us. He then spent part of the block trying to blow the biggest bubble that he could. Here he is:

Art:
Been working on my project. I can probably finish it on Tuesday if I remember to take a spoon to school. Spoon, Abby, SPOON.

Music Concert:
Oh my god, so much fun. I mean, the concert part wasn't, no, it was long and tedious and quite boring, but the dance part of it was awesome. The theme was Play It Again, Sam: A night from the 40's, so before the show we had Sam out front playing his trumpet. Mikhael worked as a self employed bouncer, asking for donations. The whole thing was quite ingenious, really, because it was entry by donation, and Sam was playing, and he had his trumpet case open like he was busking, and people would just throw money in. We had quite a large pile.

The dancing was so so so so so much fun. Mikhael and I only stayed until nine thirty, but apparently it went on for a long time afterwards. I wish I could sing like Marianna.

Dance:
Worked very hard on Wednesday and regretted bringing my waterbottle into the studio.

Flu Shot:
I'm all immunized up. Yay to my father's side of the family's history of medical problems for getting me a free one. Yay to Tommy Douglas for universal healthcare.

Remembrance Day Assemblies:
Sat through two of them and sang a total of eight songs: Oh Canada, Ave Maria, Nella Fantasia and God Save The Queen all twice. All of the speeches were very good, at least in the first assembly, and it the second I assume that Lehman was bored and just wanted to get it over with. The legion guy who made the speech was sending mixed messages. In his speech to the first half of the school, he concluded with, "I hope that none of you have to join the army and fight in a war," and in his second speech he concluded with, "If I was Prime Minister, I'd make it mandatory for all young people to join the army for two years to learn some discipline." Um, right. On the other hand, he's . . . eighty-two, so I suppose that he is allowed to change his mind at will like that.

Later Cassie told me that she could hear me over everyone else in choir. And that is why I switched places with Jaqueline, so that I could be as far away from a mic as possible.

Mikhael's house:
A nice way to end the week. Mikhael fell asleep on me while we were watching the Simpsons, and so for once I went down to Coquitlam Station on my own so that he wouldn't have to get up.

Miscellaneous:
I have a giant bruise on my arm. Humongously giant. How did I get it? I lightly tapped my arm against a table in the library. For the first twelve hours it was one of those bruises that stings when the slightest amount of pressure is applied to it. The last couple of days it has gotten slightly better pain-wise, but a lot more visible.

*Krisha in high-pitched voice* Oooooo, brownie bin. Oooooooooooo

Alright, not feeling like typing, so this is a placeholder. Currently playing Peek-a-boo via webcam with Mikhael.

"What about you, ladies, let's rate male celebrities. Not Uma Thurman. She's mine."

Today . . . sucked.

I was late for choir, even though I told my parents that I wanted to be on time today. Natasha did save me a small vest though, so that was nice of her.

Block one I worked on my bio lab. Stupid, stupid bio lab.

In French I actually participated, talked about rugby. I realized that I have an example of what we were learning today already in my oral and that made me happy.

In English we discussed possible themes for A Handmaid's Tale. A few of us did. Hunnings says he's never had an IB class before where two thirds of the class hasn't even read the novel. To be fair, however, some people cannot read dystopic novels. I can, in fact, I really like them. We got into unofficial groups for our presentations. I'm with Kayley, Kenard and Emily, which means that I have a good group. Mainly because three of us have read the book and Kenard is almost finished, so we know what is going on. Tomorrow I have to write a commentary about a passage in A Bird in the House.

In bio I did horrible on a quiz, then spent the rest of the block beating my head against Mikhael's arm. My head hurt quite a bit by the end of the block, but it did calm me down somewhat.

In art I made an ear. 'Nuff said.

After school I was supposed to go to a music student council meeting, but I forgot until nearly three hours afterwards. Mikhael and I bussed to Coquitlam Station, where we split up; he went home and was picked up by his parents to go for his flu vaccination (which has me wondering about mine, because I get a free one every year too and I have no idea when I'm getting it) and I went to the mall, curled up on a chair and memorized my French oral for two hours until five, when I decided that I couldn't take it anymore and went to dance.

Hung out at Footloose for a while, watching other classes and discussing violence in schools with Luke and IB with Heather and Kieran's mom.

Donna pulled something even scarier than last week's not giving any lectures whatsoever: she lectured me about coming to dance with an injury. She never does that. Usually it's just "Suck it up and dance, and bend your knees more. I don't care if you have a permanent knee injury," but today she told me that I shouldn't have come because of my shin splints. I told her that they were not that bad, which they aren't. I've had worse.

I was all tired-like when I got home, probably because of only having eaten a sandwich and two cookies all day. I fixed that though. No hypoglycemia for me.

I've been staring at a blank screen for half an hour now. Time for sleep.

...

Spent all day writing my French oral and trying to remove that fucking virus. Ugh.

Don't want to go to school tomorrow. I'll be spending all of block one trying to finish my bio lab.

On the bright side, my oral is all written. Yay :) It makes sense too. Now I have at least until Wednesday to memorize it, maybe Thursday. I want to go on wednesday. Need to get it over with. Last year Johansson always picked me last to do my oral. Maybe she thought that I needed some extra time to practice. Waiting only makes you more nervous.

You can't buy the necessities of life with cookies. Too bad

Today Mikhael came over to teach me how to drop kick Stewart in the local park. We practiced in the rain because we're cool like that. After I was accidentally hit over the head, we went back to my place, where I washed Stewart and my tee and took some Tylenol. Then we alternated between making cookies and watching Edward Scissorhands.

Soon after that he left, and since then I have been trying to remove the virus that has made it's way onto my computer by a certain person. If only he had sent me the serial number, this never would have happened.

Here is me in my Cookie Loves Milk shirt:

I'm not boring, am I? I blame it on my childhood. I was always the neglected one

While most of my day is not worth mentioning, I did hear some good news today. Apparently Footloose is getting a costume coordinator to make all of the end decisions on all of the costumes for every dance in the school, so that we don't have a repeat of previous years. I was very happy to hear this, because I personally hope that this year's group costume is not as bad as last year's. My solo I'm not too worried about because I'll probably buy most of it myself. Also, costumes will be cheaper this year, so for once it might cost me less than two hundred to purchase my costumes.

I need to start writing my French oral this weekend.

And as an added bonus, here is my ceramics project so far:

The eyelids need to be fixed, a lot, but other than that, it's coming along nicely. Mine so far is much better than anybody else in my class, because ceramics is the one thing that I can do in my art class that other people can't. Oh art, how I hate you.

Sabot's fortieth tomorrow.

Transvestite Liverworts

Tuesday started off with Mikhael and I running between our locker, the bathrooms and the library, finishing our costumes. We went as each other, because we couldn't get giant foam curling rock costumes in time. Here is a picture:

Mme Cloutier visited us in French to talk to us about our individual and group orals in March. She reminds me a bit of Mme Bilodeau.

In English I did my debate. I thought that it was okay at the time, though I later found out that I did horribly on it. At one point I wanted to cry, not because I was frustrated or upset, but because of something Kenard said. I know that he mentioned it for the sake of the debate, but just the fact that he said that choosing to be completely opposite from your suppressors does not mean that you are suppressed made me so angry. I will not go into detail because it is not fair to a certain member of my family.

Sometimes I feel like Vanessa MacLeod.

In bio we traumatized Sabot and a lot of other people for life due to the fact that Mikhael was wearing one of my shirts that was much too short for him, and I was wearing boxers. We took lots and lots and lots and lots of notes. Mikhael tried to give Francis a lapdance and I was disturbed.

In art we started working on our ceramics pieces.

After school Mikhael and I walked to Erin's and dropped off our bags, and I left her a note that basically said, "sorry for the short notice, I'm staying the night tonight." We then bussed it to Lougheed and caught the skytrain to Stadium. We spent the next while wandering around Vancouver, trying to find a place to eat, because Finch's was closed and I couldn't remember where Cassis was located in the dark. We settled on a little sushi place in Gastown that was cheap and had fast service and good cali rolls.

Watched the game between the Canucks and the Nashville Predators. I was most unimpressed, though the reactions of the crowd would make a really good anthropological study. Canucks lost as expected.

Skytrain and bus to Erin's, Mikhael picked up his duffel and left, and I stripped down, cocooned myself in a quilt and collapsed on the couch.

Woke up at 6:30, half an hour after I turned off my alarm. Considered sleeping in until nine, because I have block one off. Suddenly remembered that I had dance and made a frantic call to my mother to give my dance shoes to Tena when my parents picked her up so she could pass them on to me. Left at 7:15, got to school at quarter to eight. There was a music student council meeting at eight, which I attended, but the only thing I accomplished while I was there was spilling Alex's tea on my 24 Hours.

Read a magazine in block one. Jas was making his rounds about the portfolio thing and Faaria never arrived at school, so there were no cards to play with in the caf.

Assembly, some guy who has met Donald Trump talked to us about good attitude etc. Nothing really new. His hair remind me of Jas'.

In French discussed oral next week.

In English we were in room 109, so the last group to do their debate did not do their debate because the room was unsuitable. Kenard gave me a Reeces Peanutbutter Cup and a granola bar. I drew spiders and pineapples in my journal.

In bio we worked on our labs

Art, worked for about ten minutes, then Gardenner came in to give a quick lesson that I fund quite boring.

After school I waited for Mikhael to get out of wrestling, then we went to the mall where I fulfilled a childhood dream: buy Halloween candy on November 1st. It's like boxing day only better.

I thought Donna was giving us a late Halloween scare at dance; she didn't lecture us at all. She didn't even mention the fact that both Luke and I were wearing jeans. I was scared and confused.

This morning it took my quite a while to get out of bed. My mother was not going into work, so my dad took extra long to get ready, pissing me off muchly.

Block one we played cards.

In French Megan and I had a rather interesting conversation in my journal, which went as follows:

"It's male/female, but I heard manwhore."
"That's right, he wants a manwhore for a roommate. He absolutely insists on it."
"Oooo, kinky."
"That's French people for you . . . :) You know, the Marquis Oesade was French."
"French: the language of 'love.'"
"+ lust."
"That's why it was in quotations."
"I see; quotations do tend to imply a dirty second meaning."
"If we had been speaking this our loud, there probably would have been some suggestive eyebrows thrown in there somewhere."
"Yes, yes, much wiggling of eyebrows, lubricious shaking of shoulders and giggling."
"And by lubricious you obviously mean slick with oil."
"Well obviously."

Bellemare then asked us why we were smiling, because you're not supposed to smile in his class. Carolyn asked what tranquille meant, and when she found out, remarked, "Well, it's no wonder that I didn't know it."

In English Hunnings talked. I drew pineapples in my notes.

In Bio, Omar made my day. Somebody logged onto this site, and since it was projected onto the screen on the side of the room, it attracted much attention. Some people were reading them out loud, and one person got to the one that says, "IB, therefore IBS." Omar said, "Oh, I get it." I said, "Do you really?" Omar replied, "Yes, Inflammatory Bowel Syndrome." At this point, we all thought that he was making a joke. Then somebody said, "IB, therefore I Bull Shit." Omar said," Oh! OH! I get it!" Anyone who had heard his previous comment started laughing, me probably so loud that I could be heard across the school.

Art, worked more on piece. The head of my piece is now partially done and I love it already.

Got home before five for a change. Men on bus let me on before them, then showed an interest in what I was reading.

I hate my father. Goodnight.
